Series I comprises 82 typed and edited pages of early, fragmentary versions of chapters in Gindertael's Hartung monograph, published in 1960. They include 6 copies of the biographical text used in the "Résumé chronologique" chapter, each with various corrections. Other related papers are a notebook (24 pp.) and 24 handwritten loose pages of documentation about the artist, his work, references to contemporary artists, and fragmentary interpretations of Hartung's art.
